Oral surgery is a speciality that deals with the treatment and ongoing management of irregularities and pathology of the jaw and mouth that require surgical intervention.
Although the surgical removal of teeth is the most common procedure performed by oral surgeons, there is a broad scope to the speciality which includes the management of hard and soft tissue problems, oral infections, bone trauma and pain in the mouth, jaws and face.
Oral surgeons also play a role in supporting orthodontics and are instrumental in bone augmentation before the insertion of dental implants, when bone matter is appended to the jawbone, stimulating bone regeneration in order to permanently anchor the implants.
Other procedures carried out in oral surgery include the extraction of broken roots which are still embedded in the jawbone and the removal of cysts or other growths from the jaws. Soft tissue surgery such as biopsies and the removal of lumps or growths on the lips or cheeks and wisdom tooth extractions are also the responsibility of oral surgeons.

Our team is very experienced in dealing with patients who are nervous or anxious about treatment and we can offer sedation if required.
